#DigiAgriFood at the Educational Seminar: “Artificial Intelligence and Disease Prediction in Crops – The Case of Kiwifruit”

The Democritus University of Thrace, the lead partner of the first European Digital Innovation Hub in the Hellenic Agri-food sector, #DigiAgriFood, in collaboration with the Department of Computer Science in Kavala (Machine Learning and Vision Research Group) and the Xanthi Chamber of Commerce, is organizing an in-person educational seminar titled: “Artificial Intelligence and Disease Prediction in Crops –  The Case of Kiwifruit”, on Monday, May 5, 2025, at 18:00, in Xanthi, at the event hall of the Xanthi Chamber of Commerce, **1 Vas. Konstantinou Street.

 

As part of our mission to support farmers and small-to-medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with innovative, digital, and sustainable solutions, the #DigiAgriFood Hub continues its series of in-person awareness events. These events foster collaboration by connecting local agronomists, agricultural advisors, cooperatives, and farmer associations with the DigiAgriFood team in a dynamic environment that links our services to real local needs.

 

The seminar aims to explore the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in kiwifruit cultivation. Specifically, it will cover AI applications in agriculture, computer vision, the use of computer vision in agriculture, and finally, how computer vision is applied in kiwifruit cultivation and disease identification.

 

In addition, there will be a presentation of a service offered to kiwifruit growers and agronomists: the mobile application developed by the Department of Informatics in Kavala, Democritus University of Thrace, called DigiKiwiapp.

 

Lastly, the services offered by #DigiAgriFood will be presented, which are available to members of the Chamber of Commerce and beyond.

 

The event is open to the public, and is particularly aimed at farmers, agronomists, processors, and agricultural cooperatives.

#DigiAgriFood has been approved by the European Commission as part of the European Digital Innovation Hubs Network and is co-funded by the European Union, under the Digital Europe Programme and the “Competitiveness Programme” of the Partnership Agreement 2021-2027 (ESPA).
