Event Conclusion | Local Innovation Hub for Circular Agricultural Production

On Thursday, 19 February 2026, the event titled “Local Digitalization and Innovation Hub for Circular Agricultural Production | Biofarms – DigiAgriFood” took place at the JOIST Innovation Park in Larissa.

The event was co-organized by the DigiAgriFood hub, which focuses on the digitalization of the agri-food sector, and the European project BioFarms, which focuses on the circular economy in the agri-food sector. The ultimate goal is to create synergies for the operation of a local support ecosystem in Thessaly, serving as a reference point for producers and small and medium-sized enterprises by providing services, tools, and support for the transition to more sustainable and competitive business models.

A workshop was held with the participation of representatives from the quadruple helix (research community, industry/business sector, local authorities, and civil society), facilitating the exchange of views on key issues concerning the wider region. These included the adoption of digital tools and infrastructure that support sustainable agri-food systems, funding and collaboration opportunities, understanding the opportunities and challenges in implementing circular economy practices, and exploring optimal networking possibilities among stakeholders.

The event also included a presentation of the DigiAgriFood hub project and its services, as well as a detailed overview of the Agronit platform tools by members of the research team from the University of Thessaly. The platform enables users to manage data and access services related to agricultural production.
