Completion of the informative event: “Digital Transformation in Agriculture”, in Volos.

The informative event organized by #DigiAgriFood, the first European Digital Innovation Hub in the agri-food sector in Greece, by the Bio-Economy and Agro-Technology Institute (iBO / CERTH), a partner of the hub, was successfully completed on Friday, February 23, with the support of the Municipality of Almyros and farmB, in Almyros, Volos.

The event aimed to inform stakeholders, businesses, and farmers about the actions of the hub and its upcoming services, which aim to facilitate the digital and green transformation across the entire agri-food value chain, with direct benefits for citizens, SMEs, and the public sector in the regions of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Central Macedonia, Western Macedonia, Epirus, and Thessaly.

Mr. Stamenitis Dionysis, Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food, honored the event with his remote presence.

The event was framed by speeches related to entrepreneurship and decision-making, supported by digital technologies in agriculture, thus promoting sustainability in the agricultural sector. Specifically, the following topics were developed:

  • Entrepreneurship: How business models based on digital technologies can add value to agricultural products.
  • Decision-making: How platforms and data technologies assist in the decision-making processes of agricultural businesses.
  • Digital Agriculture: How responsible data exchange is carried out and what are the digital farming tools.
  • Sustainability: How sustainability in the agricultural sector is promoted through the use of digital tools.

Dimitrios Kateris, a Researcher at iBO/CERTH, presented the operation of the hub, the services it offers to producers, agricultural consultants, and businesses operating in the agri-food sector, and the processes for registration and participation of the beneficiaries.

  • Dimitrios Aedonis, President of the Supply Chain Department of the International University of Greece,
  • Ioannis Pourikas, Head of Wheat Markets and By-product Sales at Melissa Kikizas Company,
  • Nikolaos Mytilekas, Marketing & Agronomy Manager Turkey, Balkans & Middle East at YARA Hellas,
  • and Elias Platis, Market Development Manager at farmB Digital Agriculture.
