Conclusion of the Educational Seminar “Innovative & Digital Practices for Soil Health: Quality Water & Zeolite – Allies of the Modern Farmer”

On April 30, 2025, the first European Digital Innovation Hub in the Hellenic Agri-food sector, #DigiAgriFood successfully organized an educational seminar titled Innovative & Digital Practices for Soil Health: Quality Water & Zeolite – Allies of the Modern Farmer, in collaboration with Avgi Ltd. and Thracian Zeolite, at their facilities in Yfantes, Komotini.

 

The seminar focused on informing and educating participants about innovative and digital practices that can be applied to improve soil health and ensure high-quality irrigation water in agricultural production. Additionally, the multiple uses of zeolite in agriculture were presented, with particular emphasis on enhancing soil quality and crop resilience.

 

The event featured training sessions from Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH) professors:

  • Dr. Christos Akratos, from the Department of Civil Engineering, Xanthi, presented on “Irrigation water: quality, impacts from agricultural activity, utilization, and modern methods.”
  • Dr. Michail Orfanoudakis, from the Laboratory of Forest Soil Science, Department of Forestry and Management of the Environment and Natural Resources, Orestiada, spoke on “Low-input crops: Improving cotton varieties with the help of symbiotic soil fungi.”

 

The contribution of Avgi Ltd., Thracian Zeolite, was also pivotal, as the company shared insights into the uses of zeolite in agriculture and its role in mitigating abiotic stress. #DigiAgriFood warmly thanks Avgi Ltd. for its hospitality and collaboration, as well as everyone who contributed to the successful organization of this event.

 

The seminar attracted the interest of farmers, agronomists, and professionals from the agri-food sector, who had the opportunity to learn about the latest developments in soil health and irrigation water quality.
