Democritus University of Thrace, the leading partner of the first European Digital Innovation Hub in the Hellenic Agri-food sector, #DigiAgriFood, supported by the Laboratory of Applied Microbiology & Biotechnology, is organizing an online seminar on “HPLC Analysis (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography)” on Friday, 7/3/2025, from 18:00 to 20:00.
Additionally, a hands-on workshop on olive oil samples will take place on Saturday, 8/3/2025, from 12:00 to 14:00 and 15:00 to 17:00, at the Department of Molecular Biology & Genetics building in Alexandroupoli.
Participants are encouraged to bring olive oil samples for on-site analysis.
The event is open to the public, with limited spots, and is primarily aimed at olive oil producers, cooperatives of olive oil producers, packaging companies, and olive oil trading companies.
Important Information:
The composition of olive oil may vary depending on geographical origin, olive variety, cultivation methods, fruit ripening stage, and overall production conditions. However, the concentration of specific compounds such as tocopherols (with strong antioxidant activity) and squalene are important quality indicators of the product. Therefore, the use of High-Performance Liquid Chromatography with Diode Array Detector (HPLC-DAD) allows for the direct detection of these compounds (even at low concentrations), facilitating the certification of olive oil quality and authenticity, while also providing reliable data for research and commercial purposes.
Participation is free after completing the registration form: https://forms.gle/CAdpQpLKPXY7LHJT8
Note: Registrations will remain open until Wednesday, 5/3, at 14:00.
