DigiAgriFood at the event “Digital Transformation in the Primary Sector – The Next Day”

The American Farm School, a partner of the first European Digital Innovation Hub in the agri-food sector in Greece, #DigiAgriFood, is organising the event titled “Digital Transformation in the Primary Sector – The Next Day” on Monday, 11 May 2026, in Thessaloniki. The event will take place at the Region of Central Macedonia, in the Regional Council Hall, 26 Oktovriou 64, starting at 10:00 a.m., with registration beginning at 09:30 a.m.

The event focuses on the digital transformation of the primary sector and the next day of agri-food, highlighting the role of innovation, new technologies and digital tools in the sustainable development of production.

The programme includes welcome speeches and a keynote address by the Minister of Digital Governance, Dimitris Papastergiou, titled “A new era in Greek innovation. Greece develops space applications with its own satellites.”

Special emphasis will be placed on the presentation of DigiAgriFood services by the Hub’s partners. In the session “Digital Transformation of the Primary Sector – Presentation of DigiAgriFood Services by Partner”, the speakers will include Ioannis Amarantidis, Agronomist from Democritus University of Thrace, Stelios Vasilopoulos, Agronomist–Food Technologist, PhD, from the University of Thessaly, Dionysis Bochtis, Research Director at the Institute for Bio-Economy and Agri-Technology (iBO) of CERTH, Ilias Kalfas, Agronomist PhD and Head of the Innovation HUB at the American Farm School, and Dimitris Bardakidis, Agronomist, ena Co-Founder & AgriFood Expert.

The event will then focus on current challenges, needs, opportunities and the digital transition in the primary sector. This session will feature Christina Anagnostopoulou, Professor at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, with a presentation on climate change, future scenarios and protection measures; Evangelos Kalampokis, Assistant Professor at the University of Macedonia, with a presentation on artificial intelligence and its applications in the agri-food sector; and Nikos Tsotsolas, Assistant Professor at the University of West Attica, with a presentation on Decision Support Systems (DSS).

The event will conclude with a live discussion with the audience, followed by a summary and key conclusions, giving participants the opportunity to exchange views on the prospects, needs and opportunities of the next day in the primary sector.

Through this activity, DigiAgriFood continues to strengthen the connection between research, innovation and production, supporting producers, businesses and organisations in adopting digital technologies and solutions that can contribute to a more sustainable, competitive and resilient agri-food sector.
