The Region of Eastern Macedonia & Thrace, as a partner of the first European Digital Innovation Hub in the Hellenic Agri-food sector, #DigiAgriFood, organized on June 2, 2025 a conference on the topic <<Sustainable management of kiwi cultivation – Opportunities and financial tools>>. The conference was held at Xanthi, at the Art and Thought Center – Manou Hadjidakis House at 17:30.

The particularly successful event was accompanied by presentations by Dr. Papadopoulos Sotirios, General Director of Agricultural Economics & Veterinary Medicine of the Regional Office of Thrace and Project Manager of the hub, who analyzed the role of the Regional Office of Thrace in #DigiAgriFood. He was followed by Mr. Bardakidis Dimitris, co-Founder of ena Development Consultants & Agrifood Expert, who referred to the opportunities and financial tools offered in the agri-food sector, and through their exploitation they can lead to rural development.

The main topic of the event was analyzed by Dr. Sotiropoulos Thomas, Research Director of the Naoussa Deciduous Fruit Trees Department of ELGO DIMITRA, with a very interesting presentation concerning Kiwi Nutrition-Fertilization.

The presentations were concluded with Dr. Thomidis Thomas, phytopathologist and professor of the DI.PAE, who analyzed in a simple and understandable way for those present, the most important diseases of kiwi, giving them guidelines for identifying infestations. He indicated the means that should be used to avoid the occurrence of diseases, highlighting the importance of using new technologies in the producer’s quiver to predict and deal with kiwi pests.

After the presentations were completed, a particularly constructive dialogue followed where several of the attendees raised questions and concerns about what was mentioned, something very important for identifying incorrect practices. The success of the event was sealed, if we take into account the quality of the questions that were asked, by the formation of a structured perception of the participants towards the management of kiwi cultivation and the use of new means around it, exceeding all expectations.
