The Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, as a partner of the first European Digital Innovation Hub in the Hellenic Agri-food sector, DigiAgriFood, and aiming to strengthen the project’s Investment Support Services Pillar, the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace organized on October 31, 2025, a workshop entitled: “Smart Agriculture Systems in Greenhouse Facilities in the Regional Unit of Drama.”
The workshop took place in Petrousa, Drama, at the Wonderland greenhouse facilities, at 10:00 a.m.
During this event, participants had the pleasure of being hosted in the specialized greenhouse installations of Wonderland.
Company representatives presented the concept of greenhouses and the modern methods of smart agriculture applied in them.
A training session was conducted on the modern method of hydroponics in greenhouses, an advanced plant cultivation technique without the use of soil, where nutrients are supplied directly to the roots through special aqueous solutions.
An analytical description of the method, its types, advantages, and challenges was presented.
The integration of hydroponics into greenhouses allows for complete control of environmental parameters, such as:
- Temperature (air and root zone)
- Humidity and lighting (artificial LED or natural)
- CO₂ concentration and ventilation
- Nutrient concentration (EC, pH)
This combination enables continuous year-round production, with reduced water use and fewer pesticides.
All the above were presented and analyzed by the agronomists of Wonderland.
At the end of the presentations, participants posed questions, which formed the basis for a productive and constructive discussion, aiming to deepen understanding of smart agriculture systems in greenhouse facilities.
