The Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH) was established in 1973 and is currently among the largest universities in the country in terms of active student population. It is geographically spread across Thrace with premises in Xanthi, Komotini, Alexandroupolis and Orestiada. With 8 Schools, 20 Departments, and a multitude of Postgraduate Programs, with a student population of approximately 29,000 and a research and teaching staff exceeding 700 individuals, it continues to be the sole university institution in the Eastern Macedonia – Thrace Region.

In a rapidly changing environment, DUTH continues to aim for both educational and research excellence, building upon the challenges and demands of the future. Today, DUTH is marked by its innovative international postgraduate programs and initiatives that allow it to surpass modern bureaucracy and geographical isolation. DUTH strives to enhance its research profile through collaborations and projects that keep it among the top research institutions in Greece.

The Democritus University of Thrace is the lead partner and coordinator of #DigiAgriFood. Through its participation in the project, it aims to strengthen the transfer of skills, knowledge, technologies, and production methods, making them accessible to a wide audience of potential users interested in developing new products or services. Additionally, it actively supports the local business community in the region for the development of innovative products or services.

The DUTH team participating in the #DigiAgriFood project is composed of specialized personnel, including Ph.D. holders and Ph.D. candidates from Polytechnic Schools, such as Agricultural Scientists, Foresters – Environmentalists, Environmental Engineers, and Computer Engineers.
