American Farm School – Perrotis College

American Farm School - Perrotis College

Founded over a century ago, the American Farm School (AFS) serves society by providing formal agricultural education, technical and professional training, outreach and consultancy, new product development, entrepreneurial support, innovation facilitation, demonstration farm services and applied research. The holistic approach and overall practical role of the institute is met through the operation of the two 145 hectare demonstration farms which are considered as “its living laboratory”. Operating as a boundary organization, AFS combines the long term experience in the education and training on the agrifood sector, transferring knowledge and knowhow to young scientists and farmers, with the valuable experience of an innovative farmer itself.

AFS has a long experience in working with farmers in different locations throughout Greece, creating communities of practice around the adoption of High Tech. In doing so, it works with local stakeholders, as well as with players along the whole value/ supply chain of the agrifood sector.Acting as an innovation facilitator and having already successfully completed projects integrating high technology into daily farmers’ routine, it now aims to create added value across all steps in the supply chain focusing mainly on the producers. It links the above disciplines to the real economy and in collaboration with market stakeholders, it tries to advance and promote targeted actions that change the way the Greek farmer works and bring him closer to the next agricultural revolution, Αgriculture 4.0.

The Perrotis College of the American Farm School is a private, not for profit organization that focuses in the Agri-Food sector with the mission to educate youth and adults to become professionally accomplished in the latest aspects of agriculture, ecology, and the life sciences, and to make Greece, and its neighbors, a better place. To fulfill its mission, it introduces and applied research in the areas of land management, crop diversification, “smart” agriculture methodologies in plant and animal production located in its two farms of 130 hectares.
