{"id":9986,"date":"2025-09-23T15:45:39","date_gmt":"2025-09-23T12:45:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/digiagrifood.gr\/?p=9986"},"modified":"2025-09-23T15:45:39","modified_gmt":"2025-09-23T12:45:39","slug":"digiagrifood-at-the-sustain-delves-beneath-the-surface-at-the-dawn-of-climate-change-school-trainning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/digiagrifood.gr\/en\/digiagrifood-at-the-sustain-delves-beneath-the-surface-at-the-dawn-of-climate-change-school-trainning\/","title":{"rendered":"DigiAgriFood at the \u201cSUSTAIN delves beneath the surface, at the dawn of climate change\u201d, School Trainning"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 4th Training School of the <\/span><b>COST SUSTAIN Action (CA22144)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is organized by the Department of Forestry and Management of the Environment and Natural Resources of the Democritus University of Thrace (Orestiada) and will be held from September 24 to 26, 2025, in Alexandroupoli.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Democritus University of Thrace, the lead partner of <\/span><b>#DigiAgriFood<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014the first European Digital Innovation Hub in the Hellenic Agri-food sector \u2014 actively supports the initiative by showcasing field technologies (drones) on the second day of the event, in a rice field in the Feres area.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This Training School brings together experts and early-career scientists from across Europe and beyond to:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Examine the challenges of current salinity monitoring methods<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Analyze the importance of temporal and spatial variability in soil measurements<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Present new tools and technologies (e.g., XRF, drones) for rapid and accurate salinity assessment<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Develop strategies for salinity management and mitigation<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Through lectures, hands-on demonstrations, and a field visit, the event fosters knowledge exchange and the building of scientific networks for the sustainable management of soil resources.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The Problem<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Soil salinity is a slowly progressing but critical threat to agricultural productivity and natural ecosystems.
