As part of this year\u2019s 89th Thessaloniki International Fair, #DigiAgriFood<\/strong> successfully organized an event titled: <\/span>\u201cOpen Data \u2013 Open Services for the Agri-Food Sector<\/strong>\u201d, <\/span>on Saturday, September 13th, 2025, hosted at the booth of Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH).<\/span><\/p>\n

The event focused on the role of open data and digital services in enhancing agri-food production, promoting innovation, and shaping evidence-based policies.<\/span><\/p>\n

Speakers\u2019 Highlights<\/span><\/h3>\n

  • Mr. Georgios Broufas<\/strong>, Vice Rector for Research & Innovation, DUTH:<\/span>
    \n<\/span> Emphasized the potential of open data in supporting agricultural production and processing industries, including the use of weather data, pest traps, and decision-support tools. He also highlighted the university\u2019s open services and their connection with society and the production sector.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Mr. Georgios Syrakoulis<\/strong>, Professor, Dept. of Electrical & Computer Engineering, DUTH:<\/span>
    \n<\/span> Provided a definition and analysis of open data, exploring their benefits, limitations, and the challenges that arise during their management and reuse.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Mr. Konstantinos Rallis<\/strong>, Postdoctoral Researcher, DUTH:<\/span>
    \n<\/span> Presented concrete examples of open data applications in the agri-food sector and discussed next steps for expanding their use in research and practice.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Mr. Christos Partsias,<\/strong> Department of Smart Specialization & E-Governance, Regional Development Fund of Eastern Macedonia & Thrace:<\/span>
    \n<\/span> Outlined the regional strategy for utilizing open data in the primary sector, sharing examples of implemented and upcoming digital solutions.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The event highlighted the critical role of open data as a driver of development, transparency, and innovation in the agri-food sector. Key takeaways included:<\/span><\/p>\n
