The event focused on the sustainable management of water resources and climate resilience in the agri-food sector, as well as recent developments in innovative plant protection.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>conference<\/strong> was organized to mark\u00a0<strong>World Environment Day\u00a0<\/strong>and was held under the auspices and coordination of the Democritus University of Thrace, lead partner of the first European Digital Innovation Hub in the Hellenic Agri-food sector, #<strong>DigiAgriFood<\/strong>, in collaboration with the\u00a0<strong>Agri-Food Partnership of Eastern Macedonia &amp; Thrace<\/strong>, the<strong>\u00a0Innovative Crop Protection project<\/strong> (within the <strong>InnoPP Flagship Initiative<\/strong>), and the\u00a0<strong>EIT Food Hub Greece<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The program included expert presentations by <strong>academics<\/strong>, <strong>researchers<\/strong>, and <strong>professionals<\/strong> in the field, featuring speakers from the Democritus University of Thrace, the Agricultural University of Athens, the University of Thessaly, the Benaki Phytopathological Institute, and ELGO\u2013DIMITRA. Emphasis was placed on showcasing applied practices and cutting-edge technologies for agrifood production in the face of the ongoing climate crisis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key thematic<\/strong> areas included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Integrated water resource management and its interaction with the agrifood system<\/li>\n<li>Strategies in regenerative agriculture and practices to strengthen climate resilience<\/li>\n<li>Innovations in crop protection and biological disease management<\/li>\n<li>Digital tools, precision agriculture, and smart agrifood systems<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The event also featured the formal introduction of two newly established academic departments of the Democritus University of Thrace in Drama: the\u00a0Department of Environmental and Climate Resilience Studies and the\u00a0Department of Viticulture and Oenology.<\/p>\n<p>The conference attracted a wide range of participants, including agrifood sector professionals, agricultural advisors, agronomists, local government officials, business representatives, students, and researchers.
