On December 16<\/strong>, 2024, in Didymoteicho<\/strong>, a special event dedicated to the agri-food sector was successfully<\/strong> held, with the aim of promoting innovation<\/strong> and sustainability<\/strong> through digital solutions.. The participation of more than 70<\/strong> people, including representatives from the agri-food sector, academics, local authorities, and professionals, confirmed the interest in promoting digital agriculture and innovation in the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Region<\/strong>, as well as the region’s policy of decentralizing relevant activities at the local level with immediate benefits for our farmers.<\/span><\/p>\n

The event, organized by the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace<\/strong>, partner <\/span>of the first European Digital Innovation Hub in the Hellenic Agri-food sector<\/span>, #DigiAgriFood<\/strong> in collaboration with the EIT Food Hub<\/strong>, aimed to highlight the challenges and opportunities of digital agriculture through information sharing, dialogue, and best practices.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the opening session, the Deputy Regional Governor of Evros, Mr. Evangelos<\/strong> Poulilios<\/strong>, emphasized the crucial role of agriculture as a key pillar of development for the Region. Greetings were also given by the Mayor of Didymoteixo, Mr. Romylos<\/strong> Chatzigiannoglou<\/strong>, the Vice Rector for Research & Innovation at Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH), Mr. Broufas<\/strong>, the Scientific Coordinator of #DigiAgriFood, Ms. Maria Michalopoulou<\/strong>, and the Dean of the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Mr. Christos Fragkonikolopoulos<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The main session began with Mr. Sotiris<\/strong> Papadopoulos<\/strong> from the Directorate of Agriculture of the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (REMTH), who presented data on agricultural development in the Region. Meanwhile, Professor Maria<\/strong> Michalopoulou<\/strong> and Mr. Ioannis<\/strong> Amarantidis<\/strong> presented the role and services of #DigiAgriFood.<\/span><\/p>\n

This was followed by the “EIT FOOD Hub \u2013 RIS3<\/strong>” session, which focused on the connection between the EIT Food Hub and the Smart Specialization Strategy (RIS3). The discussion included Mr. Christos<\/strong> Partzias<\/strong> (Regional Fund of REMTH), Ms. Marirena<\/strong> Grigoriou<\/strong> (Research & Innovation Council of REMTH), Mr. Broufas<\/strong> (DUTH), and Mr. Dimitris<\/strong> Bardakidis<\/strong> (ena Development Consultants).<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr. Dimitris<\/strong> Skourogiannis<\/strong> presented Modern<\/strong> Agri<\/strong>–Food Trends<\/strong>, emphasizing the importance of utilizing by-products and fostering collaboration. Professor Nikos<\/strong> Panagiotou<\/strong> from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) addressed the challenges of Digital Education in the Primary Sector<\/strong>, presenting data from a nationwide survey conducted by the Department of Journalism and Mass Media, and the session concluded with Mr. Manos<\/strong> Lekakis<\/strong> (AgroApps) discussing digital and smart agriculture issues, challenges, and practices.<\/span><\/p>\n

The panel “DIGITAL AGRICULTURE IN PRACTICE<\/strong>” served as the conclusion of the event, where distinguished agronomists Mr. Vasilis<\/strong> Toutoutzis<\/strong> and Mr. Stavros<\/strong> Vavias<\/strong> analyzed topics such as Ecological Schemes, Funding Tools, and support from Agricultural Advisors.<\/span><\/p>\n

The event concluded with a brief summary from the organizers, who warmly thanked all participants for their contributions and presence. Attendees emphasized the significance of the initiative and highlighted the need for more such actions, which promote collaboration, knowledge exchange, and innovation in the agri-food sector.<\/span><\/p>\n
